Hanoi arteries go haywire as residents flock to hometown for Tet holiday

VOV.VN - Major arteries of Hanoi capital were heavily congested on January 24 afternoon, the last working day of the lunar year of the Dragon, as residents began travelling to their home town to enjoy their nine-day Lunar New Year holiday.
At around 3:00 p.m. on January 24, people begin flocking to major bus stations in Hanoi such as Giap Bat, My Dinh, and Nuoc Ngam.
As usual, these stations are overcrowded few days before and after the holiday.
Travelers carry a lot of belongings, including their luggage, for the Lunar New Year holiday.

Public transport companies are busy serving passengers who are expected to rise in numbers significantly during the traditional Lunar New Year festival (Tet).
The number of passengers is likely to increase by 25% against last year, according to bus operators.
To meet the increasing demand, more buses have been deployed, especially on the southern route where there are a large number of people travelling home.
Heavy traffic congestion is seen on Giai Phong road, a gateway to the city centre.
Heavy traffic is reported in various streets across the capital on January 24, the last working day before the Tet holiday.
To help ease congestion, police officers have been dispatched to regulate traffic at intersections.
Elsewhere, road users pack the Pham Hung - Khuat Duy Tien - Nguyen Xien streets as of January 24 afternoon.
Traffic becomes heavy as from 4:00p.m. on major roads in the city centre such as Nguyen Trai, Tay Son, Tran Duy Hung, and Nguyen Chi Thanh.
