VOV.VN - Female Vietnamese athletes outplayed their Thai opponents in the final game of the fifth Asian Petanque Championship in Malaysia on August 20, clinching a gold medal.
This is the first gold medal that Vietnamese athletes have hunted for in Petanque over the past 20 years.
To enter the final game, Vietnam defeat Hong Kong (China), Japan and Thailand A in the qualifying round, Taiwan (China) in the quarter-finals, and Cambodia in the semi-finals.
Taking on Thailand B in the finals, Vietnamese athletes played overwhelmingly to clinch an important 13-6 victory, winning the gold medal.
Earlier, three Vietnamese boys won a silver after losing 9-13 to Thailand A in the finals.
The fifth Asian Petanque Championship 2023 is taking place at the Arena Petanque Kuala Lumpur, Pudu Ulu, Malaysia, from August 16 to 21.
The tournament hosted by Malaysian Boules Sports Federation (MBSF) comprise Men, Women and Junior Triple and Shooting competitions.
