VOV.VN - Hanoi FC on October 4 officially announced Australian football legend Harry Kewell as the club’s new head coach for the 2025/2026 V.League 1 season.
The 47‑year‑old Kewell is a familiar name to Vietnamese football fans, having played for Liverpool from 2003 to 2008. He remains the only Australian man to have featured in a UEFA Champions League final, playing a key role in Liverpool’s triumph in the 2005 final.
During his international career with the Australian national team, Kewell scored 17 goals in 56 appearances and represented his country at the FIFA World Cup in both 2006 and 2010.
Kewell began his coaching career in 2015 and became a head coach in 2017, leading Crawley Town, Notts County, and Oldham Athletic in England. His first Asian coaching experience came in 2024 when he took charge of Yokohama F. Marinos, guiding the Japanese side to a runner‑up finish in the 2023/2024 J.League season.
Kewell is expected to lead Hanoi FC to a strong campaign in V.League 1 and help turn the club’s ambition of competing in continental tournaments into reality. Meanwhile, Yusuke Adachi will return to his role as technical director after serving three matches as interim head coach.
