VOV.VN - Female fighter Huynh Ha Huu Hieu of Vietnam brilliantly clinched a gold medal at the 2024 Senior World Championships of the International Federation of Amateur Muaythai (IFMA) after defeating her Russian opponent Sofia Istratova in the final on June 9.

In the first two rounds, Huu Hieu, despite being pressured, made use of her accurate knee kicks to defeat her Russian opponent with a score of 10-9.

The final round saw Istratova make a spectacular comeback, outplaying Hieu with a score of 10-9. But that victory was not enough to change the outcome of the final.

Hieu took the gold, defending her world champion title. This was the third time she has won the world championships, following the world titles in 2019 and 2021.

Unfortunately, in the men’s final, Le Hoang Duc of Vietnam only won a silver medal in the 48 kg weight category against Thai fighter Supphanat Phetrak.

In addition, fighter Nguyen Doan Long of Vietnam also won another silver medal in the men’s 63.5 kg weight class after losing out to Abil Galiyev of Kazakhstan in the final match on the same day.

The 2024 IFMA Senior World Championships was held in Greece from May 31 to June 10, attracting more than 1,500 of the best Muay Thai athletes from more than 100 countries worldwide. Vietnam sent 21 fighters to the competition.
