VOV.VN - The Vietnam women’s national football team began their third training camp of 2025 on October 21 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center in Hanoi, as part of preparations for the 33rd SEA Games to be held in Thailand this December.
All 26 players named in the squad have reported for duty, settled into accommodation, and attended their first training session the same afternoon, which drew strong media attention.
Head coach Mai Duc Chung said several coaches and players from the Ho Chi Minh City women’s club have yet to join the national team as they are preparing for the AFC Women’s Club Championship in November. “In the coming weeks, the team will continue training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center and play three friendly matches before November 20,” he said.
According to the plan, the team will leave for Japan on November 20 for a training camp, during which they will play three friendly matches against club teams arranged by the Japan Football Association to suit the coaching staff’s technical orientation. After the trip, the squad will return to Ho Chi Minh City to adapt to weather conditions similar to those in Thailand before departing for the SEA Games.
Coach Mai Duc Chung stated that the team has gained valuable experience from matches against strong opponents such as France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and, most recently, Australia’s U20 women’s team at the Southeast Asian Championship. “Although our players are still limited in physique and strength, they possess strong fighting spirit and resilience. At this stage, we will focus on enhancing physical fitness and tactical discipline to improve pressing ability,” he said.
In terms of personnel, veteran midfielder Tuyet Dung has transitioned to coaching at the local level, while key players such as Huynh Nhu and Pham Hai Yen remain on the roster. Several young players, including Thanh Hieu and Tran Nhat Lan, have earned their first call-up and are highly rated for their potential and adaptability.
Meanwhile, players Thai Thi Thao, Duong Thi Van, and Ngan Thi Van Su are training individually to recover from injuries. The national women’s team aims to defend their SEA Games gold medal and gear up for upcoming international tournaments in 2026.
