VOV.VN - The Vietnamese women’s volleyball team lost 4-0 to Spain in a friendly in Hanoi on August 17 ahead of the 2025 World Championship, despite the European side being ranked 32nd by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), 10 places below Vietnam.
Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet described the match as an important opportunity to rotate the squad, give players more court time, and address weaknesses in reception and setting while expanding attacking options.
Vietnam started the first set with determination but struggled against Spain’s fast-paced play, narrowly losing 25-22. Reception issues continued to affect the team in the second set, with outside hitter Bich Thuy’s efforts unable to prevent a 25-18 defeat.
In the third set, Vietnam applied attacking tactics effectively and scored several points, but Spain’s height advantage allowed them to close the set 25-20. The final set saw Vietnam show resilience and solid defense, yet Spain capitalized on key opportunities to win 26-24.
While the 4-0 loss was not unexpected, the match offered the Vietnamese team valuable lessons ahead of the 2025 World Championship.
