Martial arts stars lead Vietnam’s team to World Games 2025

VOV.VN - Vietnam will send a delegation of 28 athletes to compete at the World Games 2025, scheduled to take place in Chengdu, China from August 7 to 18. Among the prominent names are wushu star Duong Thuy Vi and Muay Thai fighter Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat.

The wushu team will feature seven Vietnamese athletes, the largest group representing the country in any sport at the Games.

Thuy Vi, who claimed a gold medal at the 2022 World Games, is expected to deliver another strong performance this year.

Martial arts continues to be a strength for Vietnam. Trieu Thi Phuong Thuy will represent the country in kickboxing, while 2022 World Games champion Duy Nhat returns to compete in Muay Thai. In jujitsu, Nguyen Thi Minh Vuong will vie for the championship title in the women's 57kg division.

Vietnam’s aerobic team, consisting of six athletes, will compete in the trio and team events after earning a silver medal at the 2024 World Championships.

Athletes in women’s beach handball, billiards, and petanque have also secured spots at this year’s Games.

The 2025 World Games is expected to attract competitors from 118 countries and territories, competing in 34 sports for a total of 253 medal sets. Vietnam will compete in eight disciplines. At the previous edition in 2023, Duy Nhat and Thuy Vi brought home two gold medals, helping Vietnam finish 31st overall in the medal standings.
