VOV.VN - Iranian referee Alireza Faghani has been assigned to take charge of Vietnam’s upcoming fixture against Indonesia in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced.
According to the schedule, the home game will take place at the My Dinh Stadium on March 26.
Born in 1978, Faghani has been a FIFA referee since 2008. He was chosen as the best Asian referee of 2019 by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).
The Iranian international referee was also ranked 12th in the world and Asia's top referee of the year back in 2019.
Faghani officiated multiple men’s World Cup matches in 2018 and 2022, as well as games at several major tournaments such as the 2016 Olympic, the Asian Cup, the Confederations Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
He is already known among Vietnamese supporters after officiating several matches at the 2018 AFF Cup and Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
During the upcoming fixture, Mohammed will be assisted by Larkrindis and Ryan Gallagher. The fourth referee will be Heidari Bijian.
