VOV.VN - The Italian-flagged cruise ship AIDA Stella, carrying around 2,000 foreign tourists, is set to dock at Phu Quoc International Passenger Port in the southern province of Kien Giang on February 14.

Passengers are scheduled to visit Phu Quoc Island’s iconic attractions and enjoy its local cuisine before returning to the ship in the evening to continue their journey.

Meanwhile, the Italian-flagged cruise ship Costa Serena is set to arrive in Phu Quoc from February 17 to 18 and again on February 20.

According to Tran Minh Khoa, chairman of the Phu Quoc People’s Committee, several components of the Phu Quoc International Passenger Port remain incomplete, including fire prevention systems, water supply systems, and other auxiliary facilities. However, he affirmed that the island ensures safety for passengers and cruise ships docking at the port in line with Vietnamese and international marine regulations.

For the remaining works, the city will conduct bidding and complete necessary procedures to put them into operation by July, Khoa added.

Covering an area of 180 hectares, construction of the Phu Quoc International Passenger Port began in 2015 with an initial investment of VND 16.4 trillion. The port is designed to accommodate cargo ships of up to 15,000 tonnes and international passenger ships carrying 5,000 to 6,000 passengers.

This is Vietnam’s first multi-functional international passenger port built to international standards.
