VOV.VN - Localities in northern Vietnam which were hardest hit by typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm hitting Vietnam in dozens of years, have deployed relevant forces to assist residents in flood-hit areas.
At lane 76 of An Duong street in Tay Ho district of Hanoi, local authorities set up barriers in a bid to prevent people from traveling to areas at risk which have been heavily impacted by typhoon Yagi.
Residents in Hanoi's riverside areas take boats to move to safe areas. Due to the impact of typhoon Yagi’s circulation, which has caused heavy rain over several days in northern Vietnam, plus the discharge of water from hydroelectric reservoirs upstream, water levels of the Red River flowing through the capital are quickly rising, increasing the risk of flooding in riverside areas.
Parts of Thai Nguyen province are left deep in water, forcing local authorities to evacuate hundreds of households on September 10.
According to competent agencies, in Quang Vinh ward of Thai Nguyen city, there remain hundreds of people trapped in floodwaters, and it is difficult for rescue forces to reach them.
Flooding also causes the collapse of or damage to thousands of houses in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai.
Rescue forces in Yen Bai province are working at full capacity in a bid to cope with the aftermath of typhoon Yagi and its subsequent spells of heavy rain and flooding.
Residents give free meals to assist households in isolated areas around Yen Bai province.
Local people in Luc Yen district of Yen Bai province are evacuated to safe places.
Competent agencies join hands with residents in Yen Phong district of Bac Ninh province to protect nearby dykes.
