VOV.VN - Vietnam on August 12 secured a 3-1 victory over Puerto Rico in their final group match at the 2025 FIVB Women’s U21 World Championship that is getting underway in Indonesia.
The Vietnamese team were already guaranteed second place in Group A after winning three previous group stage matches and losing a match against Argentina. Therefore, the match against Puerto Rico was only a formality. Nevertheless, coach Nguyen Trong Linh’s players still played with dedication, aiming to secure a victory to successfully conclude the group stage.
Vietnam started strong, winning the first set 25-17 with key contributions from Pham Quynh Huong. Despite a tougher challenge from Puerto Rico in the second set, Vietnam rallied with an 8-point streak to take the set 25-21. They narrowly lost the third set 23-25 but finished the match by winning the fourth set 25-22.
In the Round of 16, Vietnam will face the third-placed team from Group C. Their opponents will be determined after the match between Poland and Turkey on August 12.
As of August 12, 13 of the 16 teams advancing to the knockout stage have been confirmed, including Vietnam, Argentina, Serbia, China, USA, Republic of Korea, Italy, Poland, Turkey, Czech Republic, Brazil, Japan, and Thailand.
