VOV.VN - A devastating fire on a transport truck destroyed 27 specialized racing bikes and equipment of the Vietnam National Road Cycling Team on the way to the 2025 Asian Road Cycling Championships in Phitsanulok, Thailand, on February 5.

The team arrived in Bangkok on February 5 for the competition scheduled from February 7 to 16. When the incident happened, the truck was travelling to the northern city of Phitsanulok, confirmed veteran cyclist Nguyen Thi That.

“All of our bikes were burned, and my bike was among them,” said the top cyclist who has won five SEA Games titles and three Asian championship golds.

Luckily, none of the cyclists were injured as their bikes and racing equipment were transported separately in a truck provided by the organizing committee.

“I haven't received any information on how the organizing board will resolve this, but it has significantly disrupted our plans and goals for the tournament. We’ll meet with the organizing board and team leaders to decide on a solution,” said That, who secured a spot for the 2024 Paris Olympics for the first time.

The 2025 Asian Road Cycling Championships features nearly 500 top cyclists from across Asia, including national teams, U23, U18, and veteran cyclists competing in the Master category. The event is part of the Union Cyclist International (UCI) calendar, helping cyclists gain experience for SEA Games 33.
