VOV.VN - A welcome ceremony hosted by State President Luong Cuong for French President Emmanuel Macron was held at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on May 26.
French President Emmanuel Macron and his spouse Brigitte Macron arrive in Hanoi on the evening of May 25, beginning a state visit to Vietnam from May 25 to 27, at the invitation of President Luong Cuong.
This is the French President's first visit to Vietnam since he took office in 2017 and was re-elected in 2022.
The two leaders stand on the podium while military bands play the national anthems of both nations.
Both State leaders review the guards of honour of the Vietnamese People's Army.
Taking place just eight months after both nations elevated their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership, the visit by President Macron and his spouse marks an important milestone in elevating bilateral relations to a new level.
President Macron is known for his fondness for Vietnam and its cuisine. He previously welcomed several high-level Vietnamese leaders to France, including late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in March 2018, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in November 2021, and Party General Secretary To Lam in October 2024.
They hold talks immediately after the welcome ceremony.

The visit is the first stop on President Macron’s tour of three Southeast Asian nations, including Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore.
Earlier on the same day, French President Emmanuel Macron and his high-ranking delegation pay floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Hanoi.
