Phu Quoc city, a popular resort island off the coast of the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, reeled in over VND21.17 trillion (US$831.75 million) in 2024 tourism revenue, accounting for more than 84% of the province's total turnover from the sector.

According to data from the municipal People’s Committee, it hosted more than 5.9 million tourists throughout the year, up 7.1% year-on-year, including 963,000 foreigners.

This year, four international cruise ships – Costa Serena, Aida Bella, Le Jacques Cartier, and AIDA Stella – brought over 5,300 passengers to explore the island. Additionally, Phu Quoc received delegations from international travel agencies conducting surveys and establishing tourism connections.

The local tourist arrivals are surging due to the resumption and expansion of flight routes, including direct flights from new markets. Adjustments in ticket pricing have also contributed to the influx. Luxury airlines now operate routes to Phu Quoc, meaning the attraction of high-spending travelers.

In addition to traditional markets like China, Russia, the Republic of Korea, and India, the island is drawing tourists from Europe, Australia, and other global destinations.

Phu Quoc now houses 274 projects in the field, or 86% of the province's total tourism projects. Together they cover over 9,485 hectares and are worth more than VND388.41 trillion.

The island's accommodation network includes over 700 establishments offering more than 24,000 rooms. Among these, 29 hotels meet 4- to 5-star standards, providing over 13,000 rooms.
