VOV.VN - More than a month after the catastrophic landslides and flashfloods hit Nu village of Lao Cai province, a new resettlement area with concrete stilt houses is taking shape to welcome local villagers.
First concrete stilt houses are taking shape in the new resettlement area that is about 2km away from Nu village in Phuc Khanh commune of Bao Yen district which was devastated by landslides and flashfloods in September 2024, resulting in a loss of dozens of lives and significant damage to homes and infrastructure in the village.
The homes in the new settlement are designed in the traditional stilt house style of the Tay ethnic group, with modern materials like concrete used for durability.
This is a relocation project in Lao Cai province, aimed at rebuilding the homes and livelihoods of people affected by the catastrophic landslides and flooding caused by Typhoon Yagi in September 2024.
The new resettlement area is located on higher ground, approximately 2 km away from the original site, which was prone to further landslides. It aims to provide a safe and sustainable place for displaced residents.
In addition to providing housing, the project also includes long-term support for the community, such as educational facilities and sustainable livelihoods, to help the residents rebuild their lives and recover from the disaster.
A stilt house consisting of a main house and a kitchen has been completed.
A new village is taking shape on the top of the Hill of sim (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa), not far from the old village.
Under the projects, 40 concrete stilt houses will be constructed on the top the hill.
Each two-storey house covers a total of approximately 1,000 square metres.
Construction effort is progressing rapidly, with plans for completion by the end of 2024. The project also includes a memorial to honour the victims of the landslide and other long-term support initiatives for the community.
