Local finswimmers dominate Southeast Asian championship with 21 gold medals

VOV.VN - Vietnamese competitors grabbed a total of 21 gold, 14 silver and 4 bronze medals to top the medal tally at the Southeast Asian Finswimming Championship Indoor 2024 which concluded on November 5 in Cambodia.

Local athletes brought home six gold medals on the final competition day, with national leading athlete Nguyen Thanh Loc coming first in the men’s 50m apnea with a time of 14.35 seconds.

The other three gold medals went to Tran Thi Huyen Trang in the women’s 50m apnea after clocking a time of 16.73 seconds, Luu Nguyen Duc Tam in the men’s 200m surface with a time of one minute 24.09 seconds, and Dang Thi Van in the women’s 200m surface with a time of one minute 34.43 seconds.

The national team also won two more gold medals in the men’s 4x50m surface relay and the women’s 4x50m surface relay.

Besides local finswimmer Vu Dang Nhat Nam received the Best Athlete of the Championship individual award.

The hosts Cambodia ranked second in the medal tally after taking home two gold, seven silver, and six bronze medals. This was followed by Indonesia with two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.

The four-day tournament offers 25 sets of medals for both men's and women's individual, team, and mixed team competitions.
