In a move to bolster cultural exchange and cooperation between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK), the former head coach of the Vietnamese national football team, Park Hang-seo, has been appointed as an honorary public relations ambassador for the southwestern province of Jeollabuk.
At the formal appointment ceremony held on January 13, Jeollabuk Governor Kim Gwan-young commended Park’s significant contributions to fostering closer ties between the two nations. He said that the former coach, who embodies the resilient spirit of Jeollabuk, has left a lasting impression on the people of both countries.
This appointment was part of the province’s overarching strategy to promote its image, particularly as it campaigns for hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics. Authorities are optimistic that Park’s influence will serve as a vital cultural bridge between Vietnam and the RoK.
Expressing his gratitude, Park said he was honoured by the role and pledged to make the most of his experience in both countries to showcase the potential and development opportunities of Jeollabuk.
Park is celebrated in Vietnam for leading the national football team to remarkable achievements, including a semifinal spot in the 2018 Asian Games, a victory in the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup, a quarterfinal finish in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, and a gold medal at the 2019 SEA Games.
Jeollabuk is renowned for its breathtaking natural landscapes, rich culinary heritage such as the iconic Jeonju Bibimbap, traditional Hanok houses, and intangible cultural assets like the Mongyeon art and Taekwondo.
