Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte arrives in Hanoi on November 1 evening, beginning an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
PM Chinh holds a welcoming ceremony for his distinguished guest on November 2 morning in Hanoi where they review the guard of honour.
This is the third time PM Rutte has returned to Hanoi for a visit. In the photo, the two PMs shake hands before their talks.
During talks, the two PMs agree to further promote the Vietnam – Netherlands Strategic Partnership framework on climate change adaptation, water management, and sustainable agriculture, while jointly addressing global challenges.
The two PMs also agree to bring into full play the potential for cooperation in high technology, manufacturing semiconductor components, building digital platforms and telecommunications ecosystems, and applying artificial intelligence and information technology. At the same time, they consent to expand cooperation in potential fields such as exploration and exploitation of important minerals.
After the talks, both PMs witness the presentation of four cooperation documents between the two countries’ ministries and agencies in the fields of exploration and exploitation of important minerals, customs, investment, and trade.
Attending the Vietnam - Netherlands high-tech forum and the 2023 green economy forum held on the same day, PM Rutte expresses his joy that Vietnam has built a national innovation center and a national research and development center, just 11 months after PM Chinh’s visit to the Netherlands’ high-tech campus. He says many of nearly 30 leading high-tech firms that accompany him this time have started to undertake investment projects, or have developed plans to invest in Vietnam.
During his stay, the two PMs spend time cycling around major streets of Hanoi in the late autumn weather.
The two PMs cycle through the tree-lined streets of Hanoi such as Phan Dinh Phung, Nguyen Tri Phuong, and Ton That Dam, waving to people on both sides of the streets.
PM Rutte also calls at a famous tea shop on Dien Bien Phu Street, drinking tea and chatting with his Vietnamese friends.
