Wushu martial artists win first medals for Vietnam at World Games 2025

VOV.VN - Wushu martial artists on August 12 took two silver and one bronze medals at the ongoing 2025 World Games held in Chengdu, China, marking the first medals claimed by the Vietnamese sports team.

In the women’s 60kg final, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy lost 0-2 to Li Zhiqin of China, bagging the silver medal. In the men’s 56kg final, Do Huy Hoang was also defeated by China’s Tang Sishuo, taking another silver for Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Ngo Thi Phuong Nga won her bronze medal match in the women’s 52kg category, helping the Wushu team conclude the competition with 2 silvers and 1 bronze.

Vietnam sent six Wushu martial artists to World Games 2025, including veteran Duong Thuy Vi who earned a gold medal at the 2022 edition. This time, she competed in the Taolu (performance) and only finished ninth.

The 2025 World Games is taking place in China from August 7 to 17, featuring many sports not on the Olympic program. Vietnam is represented by 25 athletes in beach handball, aerobic gymnastics, billiards, petanque, Wushu, kickboxing, and Muay Thai.
