Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosts an official welcome ceremony on April 28 morning in Hanoi for his Japanese counterpart Ishiba Shigeru, who is paying an official visit to Vietnam from April 27 to 29.
This is Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru's first visit to Vietnam since taking office, and the first visit following the upgrade of bilateral relations to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World" in November 2023.
The two PMs stand on the podium while military bands play the national anthems of both nations.
The two government leaders review the guards of honour of the Vietnamese People's Army.
Following the ceremony, they head to the Government Office for official talks.
Their talks are held immediately after the welcome ceremony.
Vietnam and Japan establish diplomatic ties on September 21, 1973 and lift their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2023.
Economic and trade cooperation remains a cornerstone and a highlight of the bilateral relationship. Japan is Vietnam’s largest ODA partner, the largest labor cooperation partner, the third-largest investor, and the fourth-largest trading and tourism partner.
