VOV.VN - On the morning of September 6 (the 15th day of the 7th lunar month), large numbers of Buddhists and local residents visited pagodas across Ho Chi Minh City to offer incense and perform rituals honoring their parents and ancestors.
The Vu Lan Festival, a traditional Buddhist celebration of filial piety, was marked by various activities at many pagodas, some starting several days in advance. It is the nation’s second largest traditional festival after the lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
Vietnamese people believe that on this day, the souls of the dead return home and gather with family members. It’s therefore an important occasion for family gatherings and a time to express love and gratitude to ancestors and parents.
