Volleyball star Thanh Thuy departs for Japan's Gunma Green Wings
VOV.VN - Vietnamese volleyball star Tran Thi Thanh Thuy departed for Japan on September 5 to officially join the Gunma Green Wings Club in Maebashi for the 2025–2026 Japanese national volleyball championship.
This marks her third stint in one of Asia’s top-tier volleyball leagues, a milestone unmatched by any other Vietnamese female player.
A representative from her home team, VTV Binh Dien Long An, affirmed that the club has provided full support to help Thuy grow her international career. Her move to Gunma Green Wings follows previous seasons with Japan’s Denso Airybees (2019–2020) and PFU Blue Cats (2021–2024).
In addition to her success in Japan, Thuy also played for Kuzeyboru in Turkey last year and represented Gresik Petrokimia in Indonesia earlier this year.
Her contract with Gunma Green Wings is set for one season. The Japanese league kicks off on October 10 and will run through April 2026.
The Vietnam Volleyball Federation is currently working with Gunma Green Wings to ensure Thuy’s participation in the national team for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 33) in Thailand later this year.
