VOV.VN - Four rowers took a bronze, the first medal for Vietnam, at the ongoing 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) in Hangzhou, China, on September 24.

Dinh Thi Hao, Du Thi Bong, Ha Thi Vui and Pham Thi Hue finished third in the women’s heavy weight single scull final, clocking 06’52”35, or 10”32 behind gold medalists China and 05”31 behind silver medalists Japan.

“We are honored to win this medal. This is the effort of our four athletes to bring glory to Vietnamese sports. Even though it’s only a bronze medal, it has motivated us to try our best altogether,” Hue said.

Also in the morning, duo Nguyen Thi Giang and Pham Thi Thao only finished sixth overall in the women’s double sculls final.

Meanwhile, Taekwondo martial artist Tran Ho Duy qualified for the men’s individual poomsae semi-finals after defeating his Saudi Arabian opponent Moghis Wahid Khalil I in the quarterfinals and his Hong Kong opponent Chan Chung Yin in Round 16.

In the afternoon, Tran Ho Duy is scheduled to take on Kang Wan-jin of the Republic of Korea in the semi-finals.

On competition day 1, Vietnamese athletes are competing in 14 sports - shooting, boxing, men’s football, table tennis, swimming, chess, fencing, e-sports, judo, rowing, taekwondo, tennis, and gymnastics, and wushu.
