Vietnam is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, especially when it comes to wild birds and animals. The country boasts various ecosystems such as tropical rainforests, mangrove forests, grasslands, and high mountains, creating rich habitats for many wildlife species. Nearly 1,000 bird species and over 300 mammal species have been recorded in Vietnam. (In the photo is the blue-tailed pheasant by author Truong Huynh Son)
Vietnam’s biodiversity is a precious natural resource that is currently under serious threat due to habitat loss, illegal hunting, and climate change. Many bird and animal species have completely disappeared from the wild in Vietnam over the past years, such as the white-crested gibbon, rhinoceros, wild buffalo, and others. Protecting and conserving biodiversity is an urgent task to ensure the balance of ecosystems and the future of many wild plant and animal species. Wildlife photography is actively promoting a love for nature and raising public awareness about the importance of conserving bird and animal species, as well as their habitats. Photographers capture the beauty and diversity of these creatures, such as the Hù (likely referring to a type of owl), showcasing their unique behaviors and environments. This effort helps to inspire a deeper appreciation for wildlife and the need for conservation initiatives to protect these vital ecosystems.
