VOV.VN - Vietnamese wrestlers on September 5 grabbed three gold and three silver medals in the men’s 55kg category at the ongoing 2023 World Weightlifting Championships in Saudi Arabia.
The three golds went to Lai Gia Thanh (123kg – 146kg - 269kg in snatch, clean& jerk and total result respectively) while the three silvers were awarded to his teammate Ngo Son Dinh (117kg – 144kg – 261kg in snatch, clean& jerk and total result respectively).
Without Chinese athletes registering to compete in this weight category, Gia Thanh and Son Dinh outplayed other opponents from Thailand and Indonesia to clinch the medals.
The medals helped to motivate both Vietnamese athletes in the lead up to ASIAD 19 competitions due to take place in Hangzhou, China, later this month.
The 2023 World Weightlifting Championships is getting underway in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from September 4 to 17. The competition serves as a mandatory event to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
Other Vietnamese athletes Trinh Van Vinh, Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan (men’s 61kg class) and Pham Hong Thanh (women’s 71kg class) will be competing in the coming days.
