VOV.VN - Host nation Vietnam will take on powerhouse Australia in the semi-finals of the 2025 ASEAN Women’s Championship on August 16 at Lach Tray Stadium in Hai Phong City.

The final Group B match on August 13 decided Vietnam’s opponents. Australia, led by head coach Joe Palatsides, cruised past Timor Leste 9-0 to book a semi-final clash with the hosts.

Meanwhile, defending champions the Philippines exited the tournament after a 1-1 draw with Myanmar. Myanmar topped Group B and will face Thailand in the other semi-final, also set for August 16.

According to sports outlet ESPN, both Vietnam and Australia are strong contenders, with their semi-final expected to be intense and unpredictable.

Vietnam are in peak form, fielding a 23-player squad averaging 48 caps, including two yet to make their senior international debut. The team features nine players with over 50 caps, among them two centurions, Huynh Nhu and Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung, who, along with Pham Hai Yen, are three of Vietnam’s four all-time top scorers.

ESPN noted that Vietnam regularly rotate their squad, simply because they have the depth to do so.
