VOV.VN - Marking the 80th National Day this year, a leather workshop run by people with disabilities in Hanoi is producing items adorned with the sacred national flag.
Tucked away in a small alley in Hoang Liet Ward, Hanoi, the 100m² leather workshop serves as a workplace for dozens of people with disabilities and others in vulnerable circumstances.
The workshop has launched a collection themed “Việt Nam ơi” (part of the project "Tôi giỏi - I Am Talented") featuring products in vibrant red adorned with golden stars, evoking the image of the national flag.
The project originates from the idea of CEO Nguyen Van Phuc, one of the Top 10 Inspirational Figures at the WeChoice Awards 2023, following a meeting with the Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities. He has decided to launch vocational training courses to help people with disabilities develop skills and enhance their self-reliance.
The project not only delivers high-quality products to the market but also enables people with disabilities to showcase their patriotism.
So far, the project has attracted more than 60 people with disabilities, helping them to get a steady income. "Initially, many participants only expect to earn VND 2–3 million per month, but over time their income far exceeds expectations. Some outstanding workers can even make VND400,000–500,000 per working day," shares Phuc.
In the bustling atmosphere, workers there busily craft each keychain, handbag, and phone case adorned with the national flag. Every cut and stitch is executed with meticulous care.
This job not only provides them with income and security but also helps them gain confidence, unleash their creativity, and affirm their self-worth.
All the products are made from 100% genuine cowhide leather, handcrafted by people with disabilities, vulnerable individuals, and those on the autism spectrum.
From their imperfect hands, they create items bearing the sacred image of the national flag.
Phone cases cost around VND200,000-500,000 each.
Small handbags, hair clips, brooches, and key chains are valued at VND60,000-100,000 per item.
Through this project Phuc hopes that disadvantaged people will be given more opportunities to live confidently in society.
