Typhoon Wipha forces widespread flight delays and cancellations to northern Vietnam
VOV.VN - As Typhoon Wipha is moving closer to northern Vietnam, airlines have canceled or adjusted multiple domestic and international flights to ensure passenger and crew safety.
On July 21, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, and Bamboo Airways announced widespread changes to their flight schedules in response to the storm.
Vietnam Airlines canceled several major domestic routes, including those between Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong, and between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao. Pacific Airlines also rescheduled departure times for flights between Ho Chi Minh City and northern coastal Hai Phong city.
For July 22, Vietnam Airlines Group flights at Cat Bi International Airport will depart only after 12:00 p.m. Many other domestic and international flights scheduled for July 21 and 22 are set to be delayed or disrupted.
The airline had already adjusted its flight schedule to and from Hong Kong (China) on July 20 due to the storm's impact.
VietJet Air also announced the suspension of services to and from Quang Ninh and Hai Phong on July 21, including routes connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Van Don and Hai Phong, as well as Nha Trang with Hai Phong.
On international routes, flights originally scheduled for the Hai Phong–Seoul–Hai Phong route were rerouted through Hanoi. Other services may face further delays or disruptions, depending on weather developments.
Airlines have also urged passengers to monitor updates through official websites, apps, and booking channels.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, several major airports, including Noi Bai, Cat Bi, Van Don, and Tho Xuan, are forecast to be directly affected by the storm. In response, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has directed these airports to activate contingency plans to ensure safety and mitigate risks to infrastructure.
