The metro route runs 1.5km from Nhon in the western district of Nam Tu Liem, via Kim Ma Street to the Hanoi Railway Station in the downtown area. It has eight elevated stations and four underground ones.
The TBM for tunnel number 1 is scheduled to start drilling from Station S9-Kim Ma on July 30.
After drilling the first 240m, the tunnel boring machines are anticipated to increase its standard speed to reach Station S10 in January 2025 and Station S12, the last destination, in October 2025.
After completing the drilling, the tunnel boring machines will be uninstalled at Station S12, according to the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB).
To prepare for the drilling, every day, 150 people including experts operating TBMs check the entire system to ensure safe operation.
Vietnamese engineers and foreign experts always coordinate closely to ensure the robot assembly meets standards according to the Germany manufacturer Herrenknecht’s design.
The cutting shield has a diameter of 6.55 m and weighs 63.3 tonnes.
This is the first drilling location that the TBM will perform on July 30.
Segmental tunnel rings will be transported on rails placed immediately behind the cutting shield,
The largest segmental tunnel ring weighs 4 tonnes, it has an inner diameter of 5,700 mm and an outer diameter of 6,300 mm.
There are 3,488 segmental tunnel rings to be used for the metro line project.
Every day, the TBMs drill about 10m, and wherever it goes, tunnel linings will be installed
The TBMs are operated by experienced experts from Germany.
Each TBM costs US$10 - 15 million USD in the world market, according to the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB)
