VOV.VN - President To Lam on August 1 morning presided over a welcome ceremony for President of Timor-Leste José Ramos-Horta, held solemnly at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi during his four-day state visit to Vietnam.
President To Lam invites his Timor-Leste counterpart José Ramos-Horta to step on the podium while military bands play the national anthems of both nations.
President José Ramos-Horta’s visit is the fourth by senior leaders of Timor Leste to Vietnam after the two sides established diplomatic ties. This is an opportunity for both sides to discuss measures to promote cooperation and deepen bilateral relations, thereby tightening the traditional friendship that has been cultivated over the past decades.
The two leaders review the guards of honour of the Vietnamese People's Army.
Immediately after the welcome ceremony, the two leaders hold talks.
Before holding talks with President To Lam, President of Timor-Leste José Ramos-Horta sends his sympathy to Vietnam over the passing of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong.
Vietnam and Timor Leste signed a joint communiqué establishing diplomatic relations at the Ambassador level in July 2002. They have since conducted many high-level visits. Timor-Leste officially opened its Embassy in Hanoi in April 2012.
The two sides are about to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on education cooperation, creating a basis for stepping up cooperative activities in the field.
