VOV.VN - The management board of Long Song-Da Bac protective forest in Tuy Phong district in the southern province of Binh Thuan have revealed images of 24 endangered, rare, and precious species of birds and mammals.
The management board of Long Song-Da Bac protective forest and the Southern Institute of Ecology have set up 36 camera traps to track animals in the forest.
They have recorded a number of endangered, rare, and precious species in need of conservation, such as black-shanked douc langur (Pygathrix nigripes), Javan pangolin (Manis javanica), green peafowl (Pavo muticus), Sumatran serow (Capricornis sumatraensis), and pig-tailed macaque (Macaca leonina).
The pig-tailed macaque is the most common type that has been recorded 88 times at 22 camera trap sites.
Most notably, this is the first time that the Sumatran serow has been recorded in the dry deciduous dipterocarp forest in Vietnam.
Javan pangolin is listed as one of the rare and threatened species subject to priority protection.
The black-shanked douc langur belongs to group 1B – the group of endangered species which needs priority protection under Vietnamese regulations.

Leopard Cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) is classified as an endangered species in Vietnam though internationally it is listed as of "Least Concern" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The wild boar (Sus scrofa) is a mammal found in both Eurasia and North Africa.
The presence of green peafowl highlights the biodiversity value of Long Song - Da Bac Protective Forest.
The southern red muntjac (Muntiacus muntjak) is a deer species which is native to Southeast Asia.
The forest is also the habitat of the Indian Giant Flying Squirrel (Petaurista philippensis).
A camera trap captures an image of a long-tailed owl (Caprimulgus macrurus).
A palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) found in the area.
