The Russian leader is accompanied by Foreign Minister Sergei Viktorovich Lavrov, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Russian sub-committee of the Vietnam-Russia intergovernmental committee on economic-trade and science-technology cooperation Dmitry Nikolaevich Chernyshenko, and Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko, among others.

This marks the fifth time the Russian President has visited Vietnam.
Vietnam and the Russian Federation founded diplomatic relations on January 30, 1950. On March 1, 2001, both nations established a Strategic Partnership. On June 16, 1994, they signed the Treaty on Principles of Friendly Relations. On July 27, 2012, both sides agreed to upgrade their ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The visit holds an extremely important significance, further deepening the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership across multiple fields.
