Quang Liem starts Prague Masters 2025 with a draw

VOV.VN - Le Quang Liem, Vietnam’s top-ranked chess player, began his campaign in the Masters category of the Prague International Chess Festival 2025 with a draw on February 27 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Liem, currently ranked 16th in the world, faced Dutch GM Anish Giri, who holds the 23rd spot. Playing with the white pieces, the Ho Chi Minh City native leveraged his advantage and secured a draw after 41 moves.
The two grandmasters have crossed paths multiple times before, with their most recent encounter taking place at the 2024 Chess Olympiad.
The Prague Masters tournament features several top players, including Praggnanandhaa R and Aravindh Chithambaram VR of India, Keymer Vincent of Germany, Navara David of the Czech Republic, Shankland Sam of the United States, Nguyen Thai Dai Van of the Czech Republic, and Gurel Ediz of Turkey.
After the first round, Liem is temporarily in sixth place, while Keymer Vincent leads the standings. The tournament follows a round-robin format to determine the overall champion.
The Prague International Chess Festival was founded in 2017, with its inaugural edition taking place in March 2019.
