VOV.VN - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by President Luong Cuong paid a working visit to the United States from September 21 to 24 to attend the High-Level General Debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), and conduct bilateral activities in the US.
On September 21, President Luong Cuong and his spouse, accompanied by a high-level Vietnamese delegation, depart from Hanoi to attend UNGA 80 and undertake bilateral activities in the United States.
Upon arriving in Seattle, USA, on September 21, President Luong Cuong holds a meeting with Washington Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck.
Later the same day, President Luong Cuong receives a delegation of Oregon state legislators who express strong interest in promoting cooperation with Vietnam in key areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor manufacturing, electronics and microchips, education and training, scientific research, and clean energy.
While staying in Seattle, President Luong Cuong meets with Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and Ron Vachris, President and CEO of Costco. He also attends the handover ceremony of the first Boeing 737-8 aircraft, part of a landmark order of 200 aircraft worth US$25 billion placed by Vietjet with Boeing.

On September 22 in New York, President Luong Cuong joins leaders of United Nations member countries and international organisations at a special ceremony, marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
Meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the United Nations Headquarters, President Luong Cuong reaffirms Vietnam’s trust in and support for multilateralism and the central role of the UN in global governance, and states that Vietnam is ready to host UN offices and facilities. Also on September 22, President Luong Cuong receives Jeffrey David Perlman, CEO of Warburg Pincus and Chairman of the US-ASEAN Business Council. On the afternoon of September 22, President Luong Cuong meets with longtime friends, partners, and progressive American citizens, expressing his hope that American friends would continue to care for and support Vietnam and the development of bilateral relations.
Meeting with Vietnamese-American veterans, President Luong Cuong emphasizes that the story of reconciliation and healing between Vietnam and the United States is a vivid testament to the power of forgiveness and expresses confidence that future generations of both countries will build an era of peace, cooperation, development, and mutual respect.
On the evening of September 22, President Luong Cuong and his spouse host a grand reception to commemorate Vietnam’s 80th National Day. In his speech, the President reaffirms that Vietnam will always maintain a steadfast stance in supporting multilateralism, the United Nations Charter, and international law, resolving disputes and disagreements through peaceful means, while firmly protecting national and people’s interests.
On September 23, President Luong Cuong attends the 80th United Nations General Assembly High-Level General Debate, joined by by nearly 150 Heads of State, Heads of Government, and senior representatives from many member countries, as well as leaders of various international and regional organisations.
In his speech at UNGA 80, President Luong Cuong calls on the international community to uphold multilateralism and the international system based on international law, with the United Nations at its centre. He shares Vietnam’s development story, and affirms that Vietnam stands ready to exert its utmost efforts and work hand-in-hand with all nations to shoulder shared responsibilities, overcome global challenges, and drive forward bold transformations toward building a world of peace, stability, prosperity, and sustainability, delivering happiness and well-being for all people.
On September 23, President Luong Cuong holds separate meetings with Prime Minister of Bulgaria Rosen Zhelyazkov, President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Senator Chris Coons, Senior member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Representative Brian Mast, Chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Representative Young Kim, Chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Indo-Pacific Subcommittee. At a roundtable with US businesses on September 23, President Luong Cuong calls on the US business community to seize the opportunities and expand their presence and investment in Vietnam on a larger and deeper scale. He also affirms the Vietnamese government is committed to creating the most favourable conditions for US investors to feel confident in choosing Vietnam as a long-term destination.
On September 24, President Luong Cuong and his spouse, along with the high-level Vietnamese delegation, visit the headquarters of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, where they hold a warm and friendly meeting with the staff of Vietnamese representative agencies and representatives of the Vietnamese community in the United States.
Meeting with UNGA 80 President Annalena Baerbock on the same day, President Luong Cuong says Vietnam is preparing to host the Signing Ceremony of the UN Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi, as well as to assume the role of President of the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. He requests Baerbock’s strong support for Vietnam’s efforts, and expresses hope that she would advocate for and facilitate opportunities for Vietnamese professionals to work at the United Nations.
Delivering a speech at the Special High-Level Event on Climate Action in New York on September 24, the President emphasises that countries must fully and promptly fulfill their commitments to climate finance, especially in mobilising resources for a just transition, in order to jointly overcome the challenges of climate change. He reaffirms that Vietnam remains steadfast in its goal of sustainable development, seeking a balance between economic growth and environmental protection.
On the afternoon of September 24, President Luong Cuong receives leaders of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute and the Vietnam Program at Columbia University.
