VOV.VN - Despite suffering a shoulder injury, Vietnamese powerlifter Le Van Cong still won a bronze medal in the men’s 49kg event on October 23 at the ongoing fourth Asian Para Games in Hangzhou of China.
In his first attempt Cong failed to lift 170kg. However, he succeeded in this lift in the next attempt. The Vietnamese athlete then decided to increase the weight to 173kg and successfully achieved it.
However, Iraqi weightlifter Al-Sudani Muslim also succeeded in this lift and claimed a higher score thanks to a tiebreaker.
Elsewhere, Omar Qarada of Jordan successfully lifted 182kg. As a result, Cong won a bronze medal at the regional tournament. The gold and silver medals went to Omar Qarada and Al-Sudani Muslim, respectively.
This also marked the first medal won by Vietnam at the tournament.
Cong is currently the leading Vietnamese athlete suffering from disabilities. He is the world and Paralympic record holder with lifts of 183.5kg and 183kg.
