On the afternoon of October 29, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer chairs an official welcome ceremony for and holds talks with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam in London.
PM Starmer expresses his desire to work with Vietnam to advance the comprehensive development of bilateral relations, especially within the frameworks of the UK–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). At the end of the talks, the two leaders issue a Joint declaration on the elevation of Vietnam-UK relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Also, on October 29, Party General Secretary To Lam meets with UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy in London. Party chief suggests that following his visit, both governments quickly draft an Action Plan, reinforce existing cooperation mechanisms, and establish new ones if needed. The aim, he says, is to strengthen collaboration, reinforce political trust, raise two-way trade to US$15 billion, and jointly launch several flagship projects that reflect the growing strength of the partnership.
