VOV.VN - More than 200 boats carrying over 600 people took part in a water procession event in the opening ceremony of the Tam Chuc pagoda festival held in Kim Bang district in the northern province of Ha Nam on February 9, which falls on the 12th day of the first lunar month.
Located in Ha Nam province, Tam Chuc Pagoda is one of the largest Buddhist temples in the world and is considered to be the most impressive temple complex nationwide.
This year marks the seventh time that the festival has been held in the Tam Chuc pagoda complex during the new lunar year.
The main rituals held during the opening ceremony include a water procession from Tam Chuc Lake to Ngoc Pagoda to pay tribute to Buddha, Genies, and the Mother Goddess.
Ceramic vases are filled with water before the procession is organised.
The ceremonial water is respectfully transferred to three processional carts and carried to the temple halls and Ngoc Pagoda.
The procession solemnly brings the sacred water to Tam The Hall, where Buddhist followers pray for national peace, good weather, and a bountiful harvest.
Many people take part in the water procession ceremony from Tam Chuc Lake to Ngoc Pagoda.
Each processional cart carrying the sacred water weighs nearly one tonne, requiring around 30 people to pull the cart over one kilometre to the Tam The Hall.
The festival attracts a large number of visitors and Buddhist followers, many of whom join in the procession.

Locals also take part in the incense-offering ceremony.
