VOV.VN - Lola Méndez, an Asia contributor of UK-based travel magazine Time Out, has named a tour to Vietnam’s ancient archeological site of My Son among the most fascinating historical tours in Asia.
In her feature, Méndez ranked the My Son historical tour third on the list, praising its unique blend of history, mystery, and cultural depth. She described the journey from Hoi An Ancient Town as a scenic hour-long ride through charming countryside villages, leading visitors to the archaeological remains of the Cham civilisation, which thrived more than a thousand years ago.
According to Méndez, the Urban Adventures tour, priced at US$77 per person, offers travelers insights into how the sacred monuments were damaged both during ancient conflicts and in the Vietnam War. She noted that although the Hindu temples are not as vast as Cambodia’s Angkor Wat or Myanmar’s Bagan, their resilience and spiritual aura make them powerfully captivating.
Recognised by UNESCO in 1999 as a World Cultural Heritage Site, My Son Sanctuary features 70 towers and temples showcasing the architectural, artistic, and religious achievements of the Champa civilisation. Despite the ravages of war and time, the site continues to stand as a timeless testament to the region’s rich cultural legacy.
Other tours named by Time Out include a Buddhist heritage experience in Chiang Mai (Thailand), a sunrise visit to Angkor Wat (Cambodia), a water blessing ritual in Bali (Indonesia), a craft heritage tour in Singapore, a peace memorial visit in Hiroshima (Japan), and an exploration of the Great Wall of China.
