VOV.VN - A local player won a gold medal in the Lion City Cup’s individuals, whilst others picked up silver medals at the Putra Cup’s team event on August 24 during the Southeast Asian (SEA) Amateur Team Golf Championship which concluded in Malaysia.
A gold medal went to Nguyen Duc Son of Thanh Hoa province who beat off competition from other 20 golfers.
The 15-year-old player lifted the Lion City Cup for individuals after scoring a total of 287 (+3) points. He became the first Vietnamese golfer to win the championship title at the tournament.
He was followed by Teerawut Boonseeor and Siradech Chanha, both of Thailand, who recorded the same score of 289 (+5).
Furthermore, August 24 also saw the Vietnamese golf team made up of Anh Minh, Dang Minh, Doan Uy, and Nhat Long bag a silver medal at the Putra Cup with a total score of 842 points, 13 points lower than the champions Indonesia and six points higher than the third-placed team from the Philippines.
This also marked the first time that Vietnamese golfers were placed second among the team’s event at the tournament.
The SEA Amateur Team Golf Championship was first held back in 1961 by former Malaysia Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, with the ultimate goal of enhancing unity among golfers throughout Southeast Asia.
The competition has four different categories, including the Putra Cup which is the main event for amateur male golfers 16 years old and above, the Lion City Cup for male participants under 16, the Santi Cup for females above 16, and the Kartini Cup for females under 16.
