VOV.VN - Nguyen Huy Hoang, Vietnam’s top swimmer, won the men’s 800-meter freestyle on October 1 at the Asian Aquatics Championships 2025 in India, claiming his second gold medal of the tournament.
In the final, Hoang outpaced seven rivals, including Ilya Sibirtsev of Uzbekistan, Haibo Xu of China, Shun Tanaka of Japan, Kushagra Rawat of India, Hoe Yean Khiew of Malaysia, Ratth Thammananthachote of Thailand, and fellow Vietnamese swimmer Tran Van Nguyen Quoc.
The 24-year-old clocked 7 minutes 57.58 seconds to finish first, ahead of Sibirtsev (8:00.37) and Xu (8:02.34).
Earlier in the competition, Hoang had triumphed in the men’s 1,500m freestyle, giving Vietnam two gold medals in swimming so far.
The Quang Binh native is expected to be a key medal hope at the 33rd SEA Games, targeting gold in the 1,500m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 10km open water events.
The Asian Aquatics Championships 2025 run through October 10.
