VOV.VN - Vietnam welcomed approximately 1.9 million foreign arrivals in February, up 23.7% compared to the same month last year, reported the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The February figure raised the number of international tourists to the country in the first two months of the year to over 3.96 million, representing a year-on-year rise of 30.2%, said the GSO.

Foreign arrivals by air hit about 3.4 million, up 32.5%, while arrivals by road saw a rise of 20.2% to 467,200. Arrivals by sea also went up by 9.6% to 99,400.

Throughout the reviewed period, the Asian region sent the largest number of foreign tourists to Vietnam with nearly 3.1 million arrivals, marking an increase of 34.7%. This was followed by Europe with 506,000 arrivals, up 18.3%: and the Americas with 236,600 arrivals, up 17.2%.

It is anticipated that the impressive growth will be maintained over the coming months in order to meet the set goal of welcoming 28 million foreign tourists by the end of the year.

To achieve the goal, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced a tourism stimulus programme for the year. In particular, many accommodation, transportation, food, and entertainment service packages will enjoy discounts up to 50%.

Last year, Vietnam received 17.6 million foreign visitors, representing a 40% rise compared to the previous year.
