Flag making village in Hanoi busy ahead of National Day celebrations

VOV.VN - With the festive season just around the corner, villagers residing in Tu Van village in Thuong Tin district of Hanoi are busy making national flags in order to meet the increasing demands of customers in the run up to National Day on September 2.
Located over 30 km south of Hanoi, Tu Van village has been renowned for making national flags for the past 80 years.
On September 2, 1945, tens of thousands of red flags bearing a yellow five-pointed star in the middle made by Tu Van villagers covered Ba Dinh Square, where President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence of Vietnam.
Since then, millions of flags produced by the craftsmen of Tu Van village have been shipped to localities nationwide to mark important national celebrations.
Four generations of Nguyen Van Phuc’s family work to produce national flags, selling hundreds of thousands of flags each year.
Ahead of National Day, family members must work all day and night in order to satisfy demand among customers.
The tailors have to be meticulous in their work as they strive to make national flags in full accordance with state regulations.
Local people residing in the village have always taken great pride in their craftsmanship of sewing the national flag, with the craft being passed down from generation to generation.
This career helps local villagers to earn a steady income and improve their lives.
Today, many families based in Tu Van village continue the tradition of producing national flags.
