VOV.VN - Vietnamese referee Ngo Duy Lan has been assigned to matches in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, as announced the football’s global governing body FIFA.
FIFA has appointed referee Lan to officiate a match between Pakistan and Tajikistan which will be held on November 21 in the Pakistani city of Islamabad.
The Vietnamese referee has just completed his duty by officiating the first-leg match on October 25 between Kitchee SC Club of Hong Kong (China) and Bangkok United Club of Thailand as part of a Group F fixture in the AFC Champion League.
He will continue to be in charge of the second-leg match which is scheduled to take place on November 8 in Bangkok of Thailand.
Lan is one of four FIFA accredited Vietnamese referees and is a senior referee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
This year he worked at both the AFC Cup in August and the 19th Asian Games in September.
To prepare for the 2026 World Cup second qualifying round, head coach Philippe Troussier of the Vietnamese men’s team on November 2 announced a 32-member squad to gather for training this month.
The players will train locally from November 6 to 13 before departing for Manila in the Philippines to play the opening qualifying match.
In the second qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Vietnam have been placed in Group F. They will play an away game against the Philippines on November 16 before returning for a home game against Iraq on November 21.
Vietnam will then play an away game against Indonesia on March 21, 2024.
