VOV.VN - National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) have signed a cooperation agreement to deploy in-flight connectivity (IFC) service.

According to the plan, Vietnam Airlines will offer the in-flight Wi-Fi service on some of its aircraft on international routes to the United States, and Europe, and some domestic flights next year. The service will be implemented on all remaining aircraft and flights starting from 2026.

As part of the agreement, VNPT will coordinate alongside Vietnam Airlines to build a roadmap, install hardware, set up software, and support operations.

With advanced technology, the speed of Vietnam Airlines' in-flight internet network will reach up to 60 Mbps.

Dang Ngoc Hoa, chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, said the deployment of the IFC service will further contribute to helping the airline achieve its goal of becoming the region's leading digital technology airline in the near future.

Back in 2019, passengers could use Wi-Fi internet connection service on some Airbus A350 aircraft operated by Vietnam Airlines on routes between Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City and Shanghai/Osaka, along with Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore.

Currently, there are more than 1,000 commercial aircraft equipped with IFC worldwide, with the figure expected to increase to more than 24,000 by 2035.

While most airlines have paid internet service, Singapore Airlines is the first airline in the world to provide this service free of charge to all customers.
