VFF was named among the top three nominees for the AFC Diamond of Asia accolade presented to its best member association of the year.

Ultimately, the Lebanese Football Association successful surpassed Vietnam to win the honour.

Though VFF did not get the award, its nomination comes as recognition of the nation’s remarkable achievements in 2022 which saw its national women's team qualify for the 2023 World Cup for the first time, and the national men's team securing a spot in the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup, becoming the sole representative from Southeast Asia in this stage.

At the awards ceremony, the Uzbekistan Football Association grabbed the award for AFC Member Association of the Year – Platinum, while the Football Association of Hong Kong (China) won the AFC Member Association of the Year – Gold.

Elsewhere, the Guam Football Association claimed AFC the Member Association of the Year – Ruby, and the Central Asian Football Association won the AFC Regional Association of the Year title.
