VOV.VN - Cau Ngu, also known as the whale worshipping festival, is the most significant annual event held among local fishermen and got underway from February 27 to February 29 in the central coastal city of Da Nang.
This traditional festival is usually held by fishermen in the central coastal region and includes several activities such as a whale worshiping ritual, a peace-praying ceremony, and other cultural and sporting events.
The events marks the end of the Lunar New Year period among fishermen, meaning that they will set sail on new fishing trips afterwards.
Participants join a parade during the festival.
Fishermen pray for rich hauls of fish, safe voyages, and peace for the nation.
The festival features a wide variety of ceremonies and rituals, of which the whale worshipping ceremony is the most important activity, with the occasion attracting the participation of numerous fishermen.
A procession of the god of the sea is carried by local fishermen as a prelude for the festival being held in Da Nang.
Many joyful cultural activities are also held as part of the event, such as a Tuồng (classic drama) performance, folk singing, and traditional games, with these attracting both local people and visitors.
