VOV.VN - The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has announced the temporary suspension of operations at Tho Xuan and Dong Hoi airports to ensure aviation safety ahead of Typhoon Kajiki’s landfall on the afternoon of August 25.
Accordingly, Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hoa province suspends all incoming flights from 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., while Dong Hoi Airport in Quang Binh province halts operations from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on August 25.
Earlier forecasts identified Tho Xuan (Thanh Hoa), Vinh (Nghe An), Dong Hoi (Quang Binh), and Phu Bai (Thua Thien Hue) as the airports located directly in Typhoon Kajiki’s path.
To prepare for the impact, the CAAV has ordered all relevant agencies and units to maintain round-the-clock operations, strictly follow the established procedures for responding to typhoons and tropical depressions in civil aviation, and inspect all airport infrastructure, communication systems, and control towers for any potential damage that could compromise flight safety.
The designated agencies and units have also been instructed to regularly monitor meteorological updates in order to recommend timely and safe flight operation plans. Even after the typhoon weakens and moves inland, heavy post-storm rainfall may still pose additional risks, warned the CAAV.
In anticipation of the storm, several domestic airlines, including Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air, have canceled or adjusted flight schedules for routes to and from provinces affected by the typhoon, including Quang Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Thua Thien Hue.
At 6 a.m. on August 25, Kajiki was located about 160km east of the central coast, packing winds of 150-166kmh. It is expected to pound central Vietnam on the afternoon of August 25, move further inland and weaken into a tropical depression.
