Traditional Mid-Autumn Festival re-enacted in the heart of Hanoi

VOV.VN - A colourful display space with a specific focus on traditional lanterns and toys is currently taking place at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi as part of celebrations for the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month each year.
The event organised by the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre opens with the theme of “Đèn thu lung linh” (Shimmering lanterns) 2023.
Both local and foreign visitors have the chance to learn about the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations from the old times.
A traditional event for children, the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month and often sees people preparing trays with mooncakes, candies, and fruits.
Trays go on show featuring various traditional fruits of the Mid-Autumn Festival as arranged by artisans.
A vast range of lanterns and toys can be seen on display at the event.
An iron ship brings back childhood memories of people born in the 1980s.
A drum set features animal motifs, along with images of lantern parades.
The paper-made doctor, a toy from the old times, is quite hard to find at toy stores today.
Hand-made toys which can be considered an indispensable part of the festival for children go on show.
Multi-coloured lanterns are put on display.
A cultural space is created in order to re-enact images of Hanoi’s Old Quarter from a bygone era.
Some mid-autumn lanterns from the old times have been restored for the display.
Traditional animal-shaped lanterns draw plenty of attention from children.
Lanterns made from paper and cans are among some of the rare items which are put on show.
Crab-shaped lanterns and “Carp turning into dragons" lanterns are among the unique items restored for the event.
