VOV.VN - The Korean Taekwondo Ambassador Cup will attract more than 1,000 taekwondo athletes and coaches from 56 teams nationwide to participate in the tournament from September 11 to 19 in the northern province of Lao Cai.
Addressing a press conference held on September 9, Choi Seung-jin, director of the Korean Cultural Centre, stated the tournament would provide an ideal opportunity for young Vietnamese talents to gain experience and prepare for upcoming regional and international tournaments.
The Republic of Korea stands ready to support the Vietnamese side in all fields, including sports, he said, adding that there are seven Korean coaches working for various Vietnamese sports, including taekwondo, shooting, and archery.
The tournament this year is part of activities marking 32 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (1992-2024).
Martial artists will compete in more than 100 events of poomsae (performance) and kyorugi (combat) in four different age groups ranging from U12 to over 17 years old.
The tournament, to be co-hosted by the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation and the Korean Cultural Centre in Vietnam, provides the perfect platform to nurture promising young talents who could potentially go on to compete at future international tournaments.
