VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the largest and busiest in Vietnam, is forecast to receive a record-breaking number of passengers during the coming Lunar New Year 2025 holiday (Tet).

Vietnamese people will have nine days off work, starting on January 25, for the holiday that is expected to fuel high travel demand among those who wish to return home for family reunion.

Tan Son Nhat airport is anticipated to handle approximately 820 to 900 flights per day during the festive season, with the peak period lasting between January 23 and 26, or between the 24th and 27th days of the last lunar month.

It is estimated that an average of around 150,000 passengers will pass through the airport each day, up 12.7% from the same period in 2024.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), this year Tan Son Nhat International Airport will serve more 6,100 flights, up 8.7%, and nearly 900,000 passengers, up 4%, in comparison with the previous Tet.

To ensure service quality, the CAAV will coordinate with relevant units to deploy flight information during peak hours to regulate flights to ensure the flights will operate within the airport's capacity.

The CAAV reported that domestic airlines – Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo Airlines, Vietjet, Pacific Airlines, and Vietravel Airlines - had received 14 more new aircraft to expand capacity for the upcoming Tet season, raising the total number of aircraft to 212 to accommodate passenger demand.

Several domestic airlines recently increased night flights to meet the higher travel demand during Tet. Of which, Vietnam Airlines planned to operate more than 1,500-night flights, and VietJet Air 1,590.
